the AFC happened when Americans sold down Asian stocks and used Asian currencies to buy USD, artificially inflating USD for decades.
So when China only issue Bonds in Yuan, demand for USD drops like cliff. USD currency drops like stone. This drop in USD triggers a massive sell down in US stocks.
